‘Intersections’ Mural by Katira
Location: Woolworths, St Albans VIC (320 Main Rd E, St Albans)
In St Albans, Melbourne, Intersections is a new mural created by artist Katira with the support of Creative Brimbank and the help of painters Lucy Lucy, Tayla Art, and Anis Pintora. This 43m x 6m mural combines the vibrancy of urban life with the beauty of nature, using colour and symbolism to explore themes of connection and balance.
The mural embodies Katira’s recognised style and reflects her constant quest to creatively explore at the intersection of urban and natural environments, modernity and tradition, and inner and outer spiritual realms. It opens a conversation about the delicate balance we are striving to achieve in today’s world, where we must learn to navigate between opposing forces and find a way forward.
At the heart of the mural, native flora comes alive, pollinated by carefully rendered bees, symbols of growth and resilience. The two women depicted on either side interact with their surroundings, with leaves growing around them—suggesting a deep connection to nature and the importance of finding harmony with the natural world.
In the central design, arrows point in different directions, representing how every action we take impacts the environment. The mural’s message encourages viewers to consider their own relationship with nature, whether fostering growth or contributing to change.
With Intersections, Katira and her team aimed to create a piece that resonates with St Albans’ diverse community, reminding us of the cycles that connect us all.
